Educational Counselors Coordinator (Psychologist)

To ensure the holistic well-being of students by fostering a safe and supportive environment that promotes their emotional, psychological, and social health. The role involves leading the wellness and counseling coordination team, offering individual support, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, and ensuring compliance with professional and ethical standards.
Key Responsibilities
Coordination and Leadership
- Lead and supervise the internal emotional counseling team and coordinate with external psychologists.
- Develop and implement wellness initiatives focused on mental health, emotional resilience, and healthy living.
- Ensure up-to-date mental health protocols aligned with international standards.
- Manage student emotional reports and follow-up via designated technology platforms.
- Support and supervise wellness counselors in case management and professional development.
- Coordinate emotional wellness training for Residential Assistants (RAs).
- Handle emergency cases in coordination with relevant teams, including outside regular work hours.
Student Support
- Provide individual emotional counseling to students, ensuring continuous follow-up in accordance with professional ethics.
- Identify early signs of social, emotional, or psychological concerns and address them accordingly.
- Communicate with internal departments and families when necessary to ensure emotional care.
- Review, develop, and implement wellness programming during the academic year and orientation period.
Residential Life Collaboration
- Work closely with Residence Coordinators to monitor students’ emotional states.
- Advise on residential assignments based on students’ psychosocial profiles.
- Assist in family communications regarding students’ emotional well-being.
- Develop and deliver prevention-focused content with an intercultural approach.
Academic Integration
- Collaborate with academic staff to ensure students receive appropriate emotional support to thrive academically.
- Participate in meetings and committees that address academic performance affected by mental health issues.
Administrative Duties
- Support the preparation and execution of the annual budget for the wellness area.
- Interview prospective students flagged during admissions due to emotional or psychological concerns.
- Organize and lead training sessions on mental health, emotional first aid, and effective communication.
- Manage external service provider contracts and therapy authorization processes.
- Oversee “medical leave” processes related to emotional issues.
- Represent the wellness team or assign representation to the Safeguarding Committee.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Psychology (Licenciatura) and active membership with the Colegio de Psicólogos de Costa Rica (required).
- At least 5 years of experience working with adolescents, including facilitating therapeutic spaces.
- Proven experience leading teams in psychological support roles (required).
- Experience in administrative tasks such as budgeting, reporting, and documentation.
- Ability to manage recreational or camp-style programs is a plus.
- Advanced English proficiency (B2+ / C1 level).
