Educational Counselor (Psychologist)

Promote the emotional and social well-being of students by providing individual support and implementing initiatives that contribute to their holistic development and success within the institution. This role plays a key part in creating a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment that enables students to thrive emotionally, socially, and academically.
Emotional Support and Counseling

Provide ongoing individual emotional support to students, following the ethical guidelines of the Costa Rican Board of Psychologists.

Promote and co-develop learning spaces related to emotional, physical, and social well-being.

Support the integration process of new students and emotional check-ins throughout the academic year.

Facilitate the early detection of emotional and social needs and coordinate timely interventions.

Train and guide Residential Assistants on wellness topics.
Residential Life
-
Collaborate with Residential Life Coordinators to monitor student well-being in residences.

Advise residence staff and families on emotional concerns as needed.

Provide input on student housing assignments based on psychosocial profiles.

Develop preventive content on risk exposure within a residential and intercultural context.
Academic Support
-
Work closely with the academic team to ensure emotional support is integrated into the learning environment.

Coordinate with the Learning Support Counselor to assist students with special educational needs.
Administrative and Admission Tasks

Conduct interviews and evaluations for applicants flagged by Admissions.

Follow up on emotional cases identified during the admissions process.

Review psychological forms and identify priority cases.

Support students with emotional health-related medical leaves and coordinate therapy referrals and follow-ups.
- Assist in training sessions for residential and medical staff on mental health, emotional first aid, and communication.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Psychology (Licenciatura) and active membership with the Colegio de Psicólogos de Costa Rica (required).
- Minimum of 3 years working with adolescents in a therapeutic setting.
- Advanced English (B2+ / C1 level).
