Role Overview
To acquire, organize, and manage the college’s learning resources effectively, promoting ease of access, guidance, and support for the optimal use of library facilities and resources.
Tasks and Responsibilities
Guide and Assist Searches
Respond to requests for information.
Develop and implement training packages for staff and students, emphasizing the use of library technology as an effective information retrieval tool.
Guide and assist students in selecting appropriate strategies and information sources to complete assignments from within the school and the broader community.
Collaborate in planning and implementing the curriculum.
Guide and assist teachers in maintaining resource awareness relevant to their courses and subject areas.
Coordinate Library CAS volunteers to ensure library operations, design spaces incorporating student feedback, and foster community participation at UWC Costa Rica.
Awareness and Communication
Serve as a liaison with external organizations and key support services, including public and private university/school libraries, to facilitate access to appropriate materials and information.
Manage the library newsletter as a communication tool, highlighting library events, book and collection recommendations, teacher spotlights, and online resource suggestions.
Coordinate activities that strengthen relationships among students, staff, and the surrounding community, such as read-a-thons, book character parties, and poetry slams.
Resource Management
Select, acquire, organize, promote, and maintain all book and non-book resources.
Develop and optimize online database systems and compile in-house databases as needed.
Organize materials for effective retrieval, including systematic indexing, classification, and cataloging of all library resources.Serve as the Destiny Management System administrator.
Administrative
Manage the budget for library and information services.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Library and Information Science.
- 2+ years of experience managing libraries or documentation centers (IB school experience is a plus).
- Knowledge of citation systems and referencing methods.
- Strong research skills and familiarity with current electronic tools and resources.
- Experience with database management (Destiny Library Management tool knowledge is a plus).
- Understanding of literature for young adults and adults.
- High standards of ethics and social responsibility.
- Advanced proficiency in English (B2+/C1) and Spanish.
- Willingness to travel for off-campus activities.
